Unclassified Personnel Services
The hiring decision is the most important decision made in any institution of higher education. Every function that a university performs, whether it be teaching, research, or public service, is dependent on human interaction. Therefore, the quality of each employee is critical to the success of the university.
Unclassified Personnel Services (UPS) provides guidance, support and performs quality review for the University of Oregon on unclassified personnel actions to ensure compliance with the Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) and university policies, procedures and practices. UPS works closely with the Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity regarding search practices and the offices of Academic Affairs, President, Provost, Vice President for Finance and Administration, Vice President for Research, Vice President for Student Affairs, Vice President for University Relations, Vice President for University Development, and Vice President for Institutional Equity and Diversity on faculty and officer of administration personnel matters.
The University of Oregon is committed to hiring the most highly qualified and most diverse faculty and staff available. In order to meet these goals of quality and diversity, the University of Oregon has developed a number of procedures and processes to be used in hiring academic and administrative personnel. These procedures, guided by University Policy, the Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) and federal Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity law, constitute the unclassified appointment process that is described on this website.
