Many UO faculty and staff have caregiving responsibilities, and balancing it all can be a challenge. Discover the resources and services the university provides to help lighten the load.

Children and dependents

The university offers programs and resources designed to make juggling work and family life a little easier, including:

  • Three childcare centers, and local daycare partnerships.
  • Duck Trails, a summer-long day camp on the Eugene campus, and fun and educational shorter camps offered by various university programs.
  • Lactation rooms and refrigerator loans for breastfeeding and pumping.
  • Pre-tax flexible spending accounts for dependent care expenses.
  • Up to twelve weeks paid and protected medical or family leave to care for eligible dependents, upon hire, under Oregon law.
  • Premium care.com membership that lets you search for and screen care providers.
  • Care networks of UO students, faculty, and staff who provide or share care within the UO community.
  • Help finding childcare providers and information.
  • In addition to prenatal and childbirth care, our insurance plans cover fertility treatments and support programs and doula services. (Check with your plan to confirm specific coverages.) 
  • For tenure-track faculty, your tenure clock will be stopped for one year upon birth or adoption of a child.
ElderCare

Many employees have older parents and relatives who need care. We offer resources to help:

  • Up to twelve weeks paid and protected medical or family leave for all employees to care for qualifying family members, upon hire, under Oregon law.
  • Help finding eldercare services.
  • Care networks of UO students, faculty, and staff who provide or share care within the UO community.
  • Premium care.com membership that lets you search for and screen care providers.
Family activities and resources

 

The UO has a variety of family-friendly activities where you can connect, learn, and have fun together:

  • Camps for kids during summer and other school breaks.
  • Family recreation programs.
  • Researchers study families and children and invite you to participate.
  • UO Kids on Campus Day offers the chance to learn, connect, and inspire through planned activities throughout campus, for UO employees' children.

 

Pets

We know your furry family members are important and time-consuming as well! We're happy to offer the following pet parent services through our third-party providers:

  • Pet insurance discounts.
  • Help finding a veterinarian, kennel, day care, trainer, or dog walker.
  • New pet parent resources.
  • Bereavement support.
